Chapter 6 - THE FAMILY VAULT

Victoria stormed out of the room, slamming the heavy oak door behind her.
Michael followed her into the hallway to demand the truth.
Arthur sat quietly on the sofa, wiping a drop of blood from the corner of his mouth.
“I’m sorry I ruined your wedding, Sarah,” Arthur said softly, staring at his shoes.
“You didn’t ruin anything, Arthur,” I said, handing him a clean tissue.
“If anything, you saved her from making a massive mistake.”
Sarah knelt down in front of her biological father.
She looked into his tired, sorrowful eyes.
“Why did you come here tonight?” Sarah asked gently.
“Why work as a waiter at my wedding?”
Arthur offered a weak, apologetic smile.
“I’ve been tracking Victoria for years.”
“I knew she booked this venue for a high-society wedding.”
“I paid the catering agency five hundred dollars to let me take an open shift just so I could get inside.”
“I didn't plan to cause a scene.”
“I just wanted to see my little girl get married from a distance.”
“When I dropped the tray... seeing you up close... I just couldn't stay silent anymore.”
Sarah’s lower lip quivered.
She reached out and placed her hand over his calloused, trembling fingers.
“Tell me everything,” Sarah whispered.
“Every single year you missed.”
Outside in the hallway, Victoria was frantically whispering on her phone.
“Listen to me!” Victoria hissed into the receiver.
“Arthur Pendelton is in the building.”

“If he opens his mouth about the trust fund, we lose everything!”
“Get down here right now and make sure he never leaves this hotel alive.”
