Chapter 6 - Secrets in the Corporate Vault

"They poisoned him again!" Elena cried in sheer hysteria, rushing toward the elevator. "I have to get to the seaport! I have to get the antidote!"

Julian caught her by the shoulders, his grip iron-strong, pulling her back from the threshold. "Elena, listen to me! Look at me!" he commanded, his voice piercing through her panic. "It’s a psychological trap! If you go to that pier alone, they will kill you, take your phone, and let your father die anyway!"

"He has four hours, Julian!" she sobbed, pounding her fists against his chest. "I can't let him die because of me! I should have never pressed play on that video! I should have let them take the money!"

"No!" Julian shouted, shaking her gently until her eyes locked with his. "You saved my life because you are a woman of honor. Now trust me to save your father!"

Julian turned to Thomas with military precision. "Contact Dr. Alistair at St. Jude’s immediately on the secure satellite channel! I want the executive suite locked down under bio-hazard protocols! Switch Marcus Morales to a total blood filtration and bypass system right now! Do not allow a single drop of fluid from the existing IV bags into his bloodstream!"

Thomas barked orders into his radio, sprinting down the hallway.

Julian turned back to Elena, wiping the tears from her cheeks with his thumbs. "Thorne thinks he is the smartest man in the room. He thinks we are panicking. But Donald Thorne made one fatal mistake: he doesn't know that our central mainframe records every molecular synthesis transaction in the BioVance subterranean research vault in real-time."

"What does that mean?" Elena asked, her breath coming in ragged gasps.

"It means the formula for the antidote is already stored inside the mainframe server vault beneath this very building," Julian explained rapidly. "Thorne didn't invent a new compound; he used a classified military antidote known as Neural-Shield 9. We don't need Thorne's vial. We can synthesize the pure antidote in our own automated cleanroom on the sub-basement level in less than forty minutes."

"Can we get it to my father in time?" Elena asked, hope flickering through the despair.

"We have my private helicopter stationed on the roof," Julian said. "The flight to St. Jude’s is eight minutes. We have two hours and fifty minutes to spare. But to access the sub-basement vault, I need two administrative biometric keys. Mine... and Donald Thorne’s."

Marcus Vance looked up from his workstation, his fingers flying across the glowing holographic keyboard. "Julian, Thorne revoked his remote digital signature fifteen minutes ago when he sent that package! The security system has locked down the cleanroom under quarantine protocol! You can only override it with a physical master override card from Thorne’s private executive office on the seventy-fifth floor!"

Julian didn't hesitate. "Thomas, lock down all elevators. Elena, stay behind the security perimeter with the armed detail."

"No," Elena said, stepping forward, her fear burning away into fierce resolve. "Thorne sent that death threat to me. He is trying to destroy my family. I am coming with you."

Julian looked into her eyes, seeing the unbreakable fire within her soul. He gave a single, firm nod. "Take a tactical vest. Let's move."

The seventy-fifth floor was pitch black when the heavy service elevator doors opened. Donald Thorne had sent his personal staff home early, leaving the vast executive suite cloaked in eerie shadows. The wind howled against the towering floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking the glittering expanse of Manhattan.

As Julian, Elena, and Thomas moved cautiously through the marble corridors toward Thorne’s office, the heavy steel security doors behind them suddenly slammed shut with a deafening hydraulic thud.

The overhead emergency lights flickered on, bathing the corridor in a harsh, blood-red glow.

Over the intercom system, Donald Thorne’s smooth, aristocratic voice purred with sinister amusement.

"Good evening, Julian. Good evening, Miss Morales. I must commend you for your predictability. I knew that threatening the old man would bring you scurrying like rats into my trap."

Julian stepped in front of Elena, drawing his concealed sidearm. "Thorne! Step out and face me like a man! You betrayed my father's legacy for Arthur Blackwood’s dirty money!"

A mechanical laugh echoed through the speakers. "Your father was a sentimental fool, Julian! He built an empire and refused to weaponize it. Arthur Blackwood understands power! And as for you... you were supposed to die quietly at your wedding. But since this little catering maid chose to interfere, I will simply have to clean up the mess myself."

Suddenly, the ventilation vents above them hissed violently. A thick, white chemical gas began pouring into the hallway, filling the corridor at terrifying speed.

"Neurotoxin grade four," Julian coughed, grabbing Elena’s arm. "Cover your mouth! Don't breathe it in!"

"The override panel is inside the office!" Elena shouted, pointing at the reinforced glass door at the end of the hall. "We have to break it!"
