Chapter 10 - Freezing Every Offshore Account and the Liquidity Trap

With Connor and Blake in custody, Linda Vance made a desperate, final bid to salvage what was left of her stolen fortune.
Using an encrypted satellite phone from a secluded hotel in Malibu, Linda initiated emergency offshore wire transfers to move the remaining $12 million from shell accounts in Zurich and the Cayman Islands to an untraceable private bank in Panama.
"Transfer everything immediately!" Linda screamed at her offshore banker. "I want the accounts zeroed out within the hour!"
"I am sorry, Mrs. Vance," the Swiss banker replied in a calm, emotionless voice. "We cannot process your request."
Linda’s heart skipped a beat. "What are you talking about?! I am the sole signatory on Silverline Asset Management!"
"Two hours ago, an emergency international Mareva injunction was issued by the High Court of Justice in coordination with the United States Department of the Treasury," the banker explained. "All assets associated with your name, your sons' names, and all related LLCs have been frozen indefinitely under global anti-money laundering protocols. You have zero access to any funds."
"That's impossible! You can't freeze my money!"
"It is not your money, Mrs. Vance. It has been identified as stolen funds belonging to Madison Carter. Good day."
The line went dead.

Linda threw the satellite phone against the wall, shattering it into pieces. She rushed to her laptop to check her personal credit cards—all declined. Her luxury vehicle lease—canceled. Her country club membership—revoked.
In less than forty-eight hours, the Vance family had gone from multimillionaire predators to broke, isolated fugitives with no allies left in the world.
