Chapter 13 - The Showdown at Long Island Sound

By sunrise, the Greenwich estate was surrounded by dozens of federal law enforcement vehicles, forensic vans, and medical personnel.

Julian Cole was loaded into a heavily guarded federal ambulance, destined for a supermax detention facility where he would face charges of treason, corporate espionage, attempted murder, kidnapping, and international racketeering—charges carrying multiple consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole.

In the guest cottage, forensic teams uncovered the full extent of Wendy's treachery. Hidden inside the false bottom of her wardrobe was a digital ledger detailing every transaction she had made with Julian’s syndicate, along with vials of the neuroleptic compounds she had used to poison my wife.

When the federal prosecutors presented Wendy with the undeniable forensic evidence, her arrogant facade completely disintegrated. She confessed to everything—including the cold-blooded poisoning of her late husband in Boston to collect his life insurance.

Standing on the front porch with a warm blanket wrapped around her shoulders, Jessi watched as the authorities loaded the final boxes of evidence into the vans. The cognitive fog had already begun to lift from her mind, replaced by an unshakable clarity and strength.

"I spent eight years thinking I was broken, Harry," Jessi said softly, leaning her head against my shoulder as the morning sun broke through the autumn trees. "I thought I was cursed... that everything I touched fell apart because of what Julian did."

I wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her close. "You were never broken, Jessi. You were surviving a war you didn't even know you were fighting. And you won."

She looked up at me, a genuine, radiant smile returning to her face for the first time in months. "We won."
