Chapter 10 - The Ambush at the Harbor

"Man in the water!" one of the federal agents shouted.

Two agents threw a life ring toward Wendy, who was thrashing and screaming in the freezing harbor water, her heavy wool coat dragging her beneath the surface. Within ninety seconds, they hauled her sodden, shivering body onto the wooden dock, clamping heavy steel handcuffs around her wrists.

She lay on the wet wood, coughing up brackish sea water, her expensive makeup running down her face in grotesque streaks.

I walked down the dock, stepping directly into her field of view.

When Wendy looked up and saw me standing there—flanked by federal agents and tactical officers—her eyes bulged with pure, unadulterated terror.

"H-Harrison..." she wheezed, her teeth chattering violently from hypothermia. "Please... he forced me! Julian threatened to kill me! I was only trying to protect Jessi and Fiona! You have to believe me!"

"Save it for the federal grand jury, Wendy," I said, my voice utterly devoid of emotion. "You're going to prison for corporate espionage, attempted kidnapping, conspiracy to defraud, and when they exhume your late husband's body, first-degree murder."

Her face went completely white. She collapsed back onto the dock, weeping uncontrollably as the agents dragged her toward a waiting armored transport.

"Harrison!" Marcus called out, running down the pier with his tactical tablet in hand. "Julian is heading west toward the old Bridgeport industrial shipyards. But that's not all—we just intercepted a cellular ping from a second team he had stationed near Greenwich. They’re moving on your house right now!"

A surge of adrenaline electrified my body. "Fiona and Jessi."

"My security team at the estate has engaged perimeter protocol," Marcus said, sprinting toward our high-performance intercept SUV. "We have six minutes before Julian's ground crew breaches the outer gates!"

"Step on it," I roared.
