Chapter 12 - Betrayal Among Thieves

The titanium security gates slid open, and within seconds, four heavily armed federal tactical officers stormed the corridor, pinning Victoria Vance to the granite floor and securing her wrists in steel handcuffs.

"Victoria Vance, you are under arrest for attempted murder, grand larceny, wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft," Agent Vance declared, reading her rights as she sobbed uncontrollably into the stone floor.

"It was Daniel!" Victoria screamed, her makeup running down her face in black streaks. "It was all Daniel and Linda! They planned everything! They paid off Dr. Sterling to poison her IV! I was just hired to sign the papers! Look at his phone—he has the offshore account routing numbers! Don't pin the murder on me!"

Claire looked down at the weeping grifter with a look of pure pity. "You sold your soul for a fraction of an inheritance that was never yours to touch."

"Take her to the holding van," Agent Vance ordered.

As Victoria was dragged away, Claire turned to Marcus and Agent Vance.

"The Apex closing is in twenty minutes across the street," Claire said, checking her watch. "Daniel is sitting in that boardroom right now, waiting for his payout."

"Our tactical teams are surrounding the perimeter of the Apex building," Agent Vance replied. "Daniel has nowhere to run."

"I don't want him to run," Claire said, taking the manila folder containing the counterfeit closing deeds. "I want him to sign his own ruin."
