Chapter 3 - THE EVICTION NOTICE

Dawn broke cold and gray over the sprawling estate.
The rain had stopped, leaving a heavy fog clinging to the manicured lawns.
Inside the master bedroom, Alessandro buttoned his silk shirt.
Valeria slept soundly against the embroidered pillows.
He walked down the grand marble staircase.
He expected to find Sarah sitting at the kitchen island, quietly making coffee.
He expected her to look defeated.
Instead, the kitchen was empty.
Only a cold coffee pot sat on the counter.
A sharp knock echoed at the heavy front doors.
Alessandro frowned, walking down the grand hallway.
He swung the oak doors open.
Two uniformed county deputies stood on the porch.
Behind them parked a sleek black town car.
Julian stepped out of the backseat, adjusting his tie.
“Morning, brother,” Julian said smoothly.
Alessandro’s hand tightened on the doorframe.
“What the hell are you doing here, Julian?”
The older deputy stepped forward, holding out a thick stack of legal documents.
“Mr. Alessandro Moretti?”
“Yes,” Alessandro sneered.
“You are hereby served with an immediate notice to vacate the premises.”
Silence fell over the foyer.
Alessandro stared at the paper.
“This is my house,” Alessandro laughed coldly.
“Check the signature at the bottom, brother,” Julian said, stepping closer.
Alessandro snatched the paper.
His eyes scanned the deed transfer.
The signature was authentic.
Sarah’s signature.
And the property deed clearly listed Sarah Moretti as the sole legal owner.
“Where is Sarah?” Alessandro roared, his voice shaking the walls.
“She’s busy,” Julian smiled, slipping his hands into his pockets. “Consulting with her divorce attorneys.”
Alessandro lunged forward, grabbing Julian by the lapels.
“You think you can steal my home?”
Julian didn’t flinch.
He smiled right into Alessandro’s furious eyes.
“It’s not stealing,” Julian whispered. “When she legally owns every brick.”
Footsteps sounded behind Alessandro.
Valeria appeared at the top of the stairs in a silk robe.
“Alessandro? What’s going on?” she called out sleepily.
Alessandro let go of Julian.
He looked back at the deputies.
“Give me twenty-four hours,” Alessandro demanded.
“You have two hours to pack your mistress and your bags,” the deputy replied flatly.
Julian turned and walked back to his car.

As the car pulled away, Alessandro realized the nightmare had just begun.
