Chapter 8 - The Baby Shower Ambush and the Public Humiliation

The Grand Conservatory at the City Botanical Gardens was transformed into a paradise of cascading white wisteria, pastel pink roses, and crystal chandeliers.

Over one hundred and fifty of the city’s highest-ranking elite—senators, philanthropists, fashion icons, and corporate board members—had gathered for the high-society event of the season: Simone Blake’s Grand Baby Shower.

Simone stood near the center stage, looking magnificent in an ethereal, custom-made white lace gown that elegantly framed her baby bump. She was surrounded by smiling guests, accepting gifts and warm wishes, completely radiant and composed.

Suddenly, the heavy glass double doors of the Conservatory swung open with a violent crash.

Harrison strode into the hall, his eyes bloodshot, his tuxedo jacket slightly askew. Right behind him walked Natasha, wearing a tight crimson dress, her face pale beneath heavy makeup, her expression manic and desperate.

The string quartet stopped playing. The cheerful chatter died instantly.

Harrison marched directly toward the stage, pointing an accusatory finger at his pregnant wife.

“Simone!” Harrison’s voice boomed across the silent conservatory. “Stop this circus right now! You think you can play games with federal injunctions? You think you can freeze my family’s accounts and steal my company behind my back?!”

Gasps rippled through the high-society crowd. Society matrons covered their mouths, and prominent business leaders stepped back in shock.

Simone didn't flinch. She set her crystal flute of sparkling cider down on a silver tray and looked at Harrison with serene, unshakable dignity.

“Harrison,” Simone said calmly, her voice carrying effortlessly across the room. “You look distressed. Is something wrong with your maritime logistics dinner?”

Natasha stepped forward, her voice shrill and venomous. “Simone, stop acting so innocent! You went to federal court behind Harrison’s back! You’re trying to destroy him while pretending to be this city’s saintly humanitarian! Show everyone the truth! Tell them you’re nothing but a vindictive, power-hungry fraud!”

Simone took a slow, deliberate step forward, looking Natasha dead in the eyes.

“A fraud, Natasha?” Simone asked softly. “That’s an interesting word coming from a woman who slept in my guest room, ate at my table, and told me she loved me like a sister—all while sleeping with my husband in a $2 million penthouse bought with stolen charity funds.”

The entire conservatory erupted into stunned murmurs.

“That’s a lie!” Harrison shouted, sweat pouring down his temples. “She’s hallucinating! She’s suffering from severe postpartum psychosis before the birth! I have medical affidavits being prepared right now!”

Simone raised one slender hand. “Roll the tape.”

High above the stage, the massive digital projector screens—originally set up to show a montage of ultrasound photos and baby nursery designs—flickered to life.

In crisp, ultra-high-definition 4K video, the living room and master bedroom of the 4th and Elm penthouse appeared before one hundred and fifty elite society figures.

The crystal-clear audio roared through the conservatory’s state-of-the-art surround sound system:

“Simone? Please,” Harrison’s recorded voice echoed through the hall. “She’s totally clueless... Once the baby is born, I’ll file for sole custody, claim Simone is emotionally unstable and unfit, and take full control of Blake Enterprises... Simone is just the incubator. You’re the woman I want by my side when I take the CEO chair.”

On screen, Harrison and Natasha were seen in vivid, indisputable physical intimacy, toasting to their plot to steal Simone’s baby and strip her of every cent.

Natasha let out a blood-curdling shriek, covering her face as the entire high-society crowd stared at her in utter revulsion and disgust.

Harrison’s face turned an ashen shade of gray. His legs buckled, and he collapsed onto his knees in the center aisle of the conservatory.

“No... no, turn it off! Turn it off!” Harrison whimpered, looking up at the crowd of business associates, board members, and society leaders who were now looking down at him with pure, unadulterated contempt.

Simone walked down the steps of the stage, standing over her kneeling husband like an avenging queen.

“You said I was just an incubator, Harrison,” Simone whispered, her voice echoing in the dead silence. “You said I lived in a fantasy world. Well, welcome to the real world. And in this world, you have nothing left.”
