Chapter 4 - The Patriarch's Secret Ledger: Blood Money and Shadow Assets

At 2:00 a.m., while Harrison was sound asleep in Natasha’s bed at the penthouse, Simone used her master keycard to enter the Blake Family Estate in the exclusive gated enclave of Promontory Point.

The massive limestone mansion was silent as a tomb. Simone moved silently up the grand marble staircase and entered the late Arthur Blake’s private study—a dark, mahogany-paneled room that had remained untouched since Harrison’s father passed away eighteen months ago.

Harrison believed his father’s secrets died with him. But Simone had spent seven years observing Arthur Blake. She knew the old patriarch was an obsessive, paranoid tactician who never trusted anyone—especially not his own son.

Behind a floor-to-ceiling oil painting depicting the original Blake shipping harbor, Simone revealed the hidden biometric and mechanical wall safe.

She entered the six-digit master code—Arthur’s military service serial number, which the old man had once absentmindedly mentioned over scotch three years before his death.

The heavy steel locking bolts retracted with a deep, satisfying clunk.

Simone pulled the heavy door open. Inside were stacks of bearer bonds, offshore account routing keys, and a thick, black leather-bound ledger labeled PROJECT VALKYRIE: ASSET ALLOCATION & SYNDICATE CLEARING.

Simone pulled the ledger out and placed it under the desk lamp.

As she flipped through the handwritten pages, her breath hitched.

Harrison hadn’t just been stealing money to fund Natasha’s luxury lifestyle. Harrison had secretly partnered with a notorious underworld maritime syndicate based out of Eastern Europe, using Blake Enterprises' commercial container ships to smuggle unregistered high-value luxury contraband, gold bullion, and untaxed black-market goods through the city's private shipping docks.

Arthur Blake had discovered Harrison’s criminal enterprise right before he died. The ledger contained meticulous records of every illegal shipping manifest, every shadow payout, and every corrupt port official Harrison had bribed over the last four years.

Tucked into the very back of the ledger was an old, faded black-and-white photograph.

Simone pulled the photograph into the light.

It was a picture taken twenty-five years ago at an elite private estate in Switzerland. In the photo stood Arthur Blake, a prominent foreign diplomat... and a twelve-year-old girl with piercing green eyes and a distinctive crescent-shaped birthmark on her right wrist.

Simone froze.

She stared at the girl in the photograph.

It was Natasha.

Natasha hadn't met Simone by accident in college eight years ago. Natasha’s family had been connected to the Blake family's shadow dealings for decades. Natasha was not just a greedy mistress; she was an operative planted inside Simone’s life from the very beginning to ensure the Blake family empire stayed under syndicate control.

Simone’s phone vibrated in her pocket. It was Marcus.

“Simone, we have a problem,” Marcus said in a low, urgent whisper. “Harrison just woke up at the penthouse. Natasha received an encrypted phone call from an overseas number. They’re leaving the condominium right now and heading toward the estate. You have less than fifteen minutes.”

Simone carefully photographed every single page of the ledger with her encrypted phone, placed the original book back into the safe, spun the combination dial shut, and swung the oil painting back into place.

“I’m heading out through the garden pavilion,” Simone whispered back. “Marcus, contact Diane. Tell her we’re not just filing a divorce suit.”

Simone walked out into the cool night air, slipping through the manicured hedges to Marcus’s waiting vehicle.

“Tell Diane we’re executing a total corporate seizure. And tell her to prepare the paperwork for next Tuesday’s baby shower. That’s where we drop the bomb.”
