Chapter 14 - I Walked Back Into Sen With the Evidence and Refused to Leave Quietly

The final meeting took place inside Sen.
It was the same dining room that humiliated me.
The same polished floor shone beneath the chandeliers.
Marisol walked beside me in a navy dress.
Hollis and Dale waited near the entrance.
Enzo had requested a public board session.
His lawyers had notified every shareholder.
Investigators attended under formal authorization.
Cain arrived smiling.
He stopped smiling when he saw us.
Victor Rinaldi sat at the head of the table.
He tried to adjourn the meeting immediately.
Enzo refused to support the motion.
Our attorney presented the certified records.
The accountants explained the false transfers.
The inspector's statement was read aloud.
The audio confession followed.
Cain stared at the carpet.
Victor demanded the recording be stopped.
The board chair allowed it to continue.
Then I stood.
I held the old receipt in one hand.
"I came here to return a wallet," I said.
"You treated me like I didn't belong."
Cain's eyes moved toward the door.
"But the truth belongs here," I continued.
"So do the people you tried to remove."
I placed the receipt on the table.
It was still wrinkled from the rain.
The parcel number remained visible.
Enzo introduced a resolution suspending Cain's authority.
The independent directors approved it.
Victor was removed from financial oversight.
The investigators served warrants after the meeting.
No one cheered when Cain was escorted out.
Hollis simply took Dale's hand.
Marisol wiped her eyes.
Enzo turned toward me.
"You should have been treated differently that night."
"Yes," I said.
He nodded.
"I'm sorry."
For once, the apology came without conditions.

I looked around the dining room.
It no longer frightened me.
