Chapter 10 - THE NURSERY

Three weeks later, the morning light streamed through the newly decorated windows of the fourth-floor nursery at the Moretti estate.
The walls were painted a soft, calming shade of cream and pale gray. A crib of polished cherrywood stood against the far wall, flanked by shelves filled with classic storybooks and tiny, pale pink baby shoes resting on a mahogany stand.
Isabella stood by the window, wearing a comfortable cashmere sweater, her hand resting gently on her belly as she watched the autumn leaves fall across the manicured lawns below.
The door opened softly.
Adrien walked in, wearing a charcoal dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up, carrying a small porcelain teacup.
"You shouldn't be standing by the window in the draft," he said gently, setting the cup down on the dresser and wrapping his arms around her waist from behind.
Isabella leaned back against his chest, smiling. "I'm fine, Adrien. The doctor said light walking is good for me."
Adrien pressed a soft kiss to the side of her neck. "The doctor also said you need to rest. We have three weeks until the due date, and I've already cleared my schedule for the entire month."
"You can't run a syndicate from the nursery," she teased, turning around in his arms to face him.
"Watch me," Adrien murmured, his hands resting protectively over her stomach. "Moretti Shipping is entirely legitimate now. The cargo lines are clean, the board has been restructured, and the only thing I care about is what's inside these four walls."
Isabella reached up, her fingers tracing the sharp line of his jaw. "You really did it, didn't you? You cleared out the whole rotting empire just to keep us safe."
"I would burn the world down twice if it meant keeping you safe," Adrien said, his voice dropping into a fierce, absolute sincerity.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box.
He opened it.
Inside sat her wedding ring—and beside it, a second ring, set with three small, brilliant diamonds representing their new beginning.
Adrien slipped the rings back onto her left finger, kissing each knuckle as they slid into place.

"For as long as I live," Adrien whispered, "you will never have to wonder where you stand."
