Chapter 8 - THE BREACH

The reinforced metal door of storage bay three didn't just open—it exploded inward in a shower of sparks and shattered iron bolts.

Adrien Moretti stepped through the smoke, his Beretta raised in a two-handed combat grip, his eyes scanning the room in a fraction of a second.

Behind him poured a dozen Moretti enforcers, weapons drawn, securing the perimeter with military precision.

"Drop the gun, Arthur," Adrien’s voice cut through the damp air like a razor blade.

Arthur Sinclair stood behind Isabella, pressing the barrel of his silver revolver firmly against her temple, his hand shaking slightly.

"Take another step, Moretti, and her brains decorate this concrete floor!" Arthur screamed, spittle flying from his lips. "Drop your weapon! On your knees!"

Adrien stopped.

His finger hovered over the trigger of his Beretta.

For the first time since she had known him, the unbreakable mafia boss looked like a man standing on the edge of an abyss.

"Let her go, Arthur," Adrien said, his voice dangerously, impossibly calm. "This is between you and me. The shipping lanes are yours. The North End territory is yours. Take whatever you want."

"I want you ruined!" Arthur shrieked. "I want you on your knees watching everything you built burn to ash!"

"Adrien, don't," Isabella whispered, tears streaming down her cheeks. "Don't give him anything."

Adrien locked eyes with her.

In that brief second, he communicated everything words could never capture—regret, devotion, and an absolute, terrifying promise that he would tear the world apart before letting her come to harm.

Arthur shifted his weight, his finger tightening on the trigger. "Say goodbye, Moretti—"

A sharp crack rang out from the rafters above.

Not from a pistol.

A sniper rifle fitted with a custom silencer.

Arthur Sinclair’s eyes widened in utter disbelief. The silver revolver slipped from his fingers and clattered against the concrete. A small, dark red circle bloomed on the center of his forehead before he collapsed backward without a sound.

From the steel catwalk high above the storage bay, Marcus Bennett lowered a carbon-fiber sniper rifle, sliding the safety catch back into place.

Adrien didn't wait for Arthur to hit the floor.

He holstered his pistol, sprinted across the concrete, and fell to his knees beside Isabella.

With a small pocket knife, he sliced through the zip-ties binding her wrists, pulling her hands free and tossing the plastic aside.

"Bella..." he breathed, his hands shaking as he cradled her face. "Are you hurt? Did they touch you?"

Isabella threw her arms around his neck, burying her face against his shoulder as the overwhelming adrenaline finally gave way to sobs of relief. "I'm okay, Adrien. I'm okay. The baby is okay."

May you like

Adrien pulled her against his chest, closing his eyes tightly as he whispered words of fierce, broken devotion against her hair.
