Chapter 10 - BULLETS, BLOOD, AND BROKEN TRUST

Marco smiled a venomous, triumphant smile.
“Good evening, Boss,” Marco sneered.
“Your reign ends tonight.”
Lorenzo raised his pistol with lightning speed.
He fired twice.
The first masked man dropped instantly.
The second returned fire, shattering the crystal chandelier above them.
Glass rained down like a waterfall of diamonds.
Clara ducked behind a heavy marble sideboard as bullets chewed through the wood.
Marco fired a burst toward Lorenzo.
Lorenzo dove behind a concrete pillar, taking a graze across his left shoulder.
Blood stained his charcoal shirt.
“Marcus!” Lorenzo shouted over the deafening roar of gunfire.
“You sold your soul for pocket change!”
“Morena offered me the entire shipping port!” Marcus yelled back.
“You got soft, Lorenzo!”
“You let a waitress distract you!”
Clara’s blood ran cold.
She glanced toward the service door leading to the kitchen corridor.
It was unlocked.
She crawled silently across the floor, ignoring the broken glass cutting into her palms.
One of Marco’s remaining guards spotted her movement.
He raised his rifle.

“Boss, the girl!”
Marco turned his weapon toward Clara.
