Chapter 12 - The Rise of Aura Logistics

One year after the night my leg was broken on the marble stairs, Aura Logistics held its annual general meeting.
This time, the event took place in our brand-new, eco-friendly global headquarters in Jersey City, overlooking the Statue of Liberty.
The company had not only survived the scandal; it had exploded with unprecedented growth.
Under my direct, public leadership as CEO, Aura Logistics had secured master freight contracts with three of the largest e-commerce retailers in North America and Europe. Our proprietary AI routing system—the one I had patented solely in my maiden name four years ago—had become the new gold standard for transatlantic shipping efficiency.
Our annual revenue hit two hundred and forty million dollars, with a market valuation crossing the half-billion-dollar threshold.
I stood on the stage of our glass-walled auditorium.
I wore a tailored ivory pantsuit. I didn't need the wheelchair. I didn't need the brace. I held only a subtle, silver-topped cane that I used more as an accessory of authority than a medical necessity.
When I stepped up to the podium, the auditorium erupted into a two-minute standing ovation from our eight hundred employees, partners, and shareholders.
I raised my hands with a bright, genuine smile.
"Thank you," I said into the microphone. "One year ago, someone told me that without a man’s name in front of this company, I was nothing. They told me that silence was my only survival strategy."
The crowd chuckled softly, knowing the history all too well.
"They were wrong," I continued, my voice steady and inspiring. "A building is only as strong as its foundation. A business is only as strong as its integrity. And a person is only as strong as their willingness to fight for the truth, no matter how terrifying the dark might seem."
I looked out into the front row.
Phoebe Sterling sat there, beaming with pride, alongside her father Arthur and Mateo, who was now our Chief Technology Officer.

"Today, I am proud to announce that twenty percent of Aura Logistics' annual net profits will permanently fund the Phoenix Foundation—a nationwide network dedicated to providing emergency legal aid, forensic accounting services, and safe housing for corporate and domestic abuse survivors."
The applause that followed shook the glass walls of the auditorium.
