Chapter 12 - A New Chapter With Marcus Vance

As the spring blossoms gave way to the warm, radiant gold of summer, my life found a peaceful, joyful cadence that I had never experienced in my ten years with Blake.

My second novel under the Evelyn North imprint, The Silent Shore, was completed and immediately secured a record-breaking international publishing deal. The movie production for The Woman Behind the Door was wrapping principal photography in Vancouver, with early test screenings generating massive Oscar buzz.

Elsie took her first steps on the emerald lawn of Oakridge Estates, her joyful giggles filling the warm afternoon air as Mason cheered her on.

Marcus Vance had become an indispensable part of our daily lives. What began as a legal defense had blossomed into a profound, respectful romance built on mutual trust, intellectual equality, and deep affection.

One Saturday evening, Marcus took me to a secluded cliffside restaurant overlooking Puget Sound. The sun was setting across the water, painting the sky in breathtaking shades of violet, amber, and rose.

Marcus reached across the white linen table and gently covered my hand with his own.

"Adrienne," he said, his gray eyes shining with genuine warmth. "For the past nine months, I’ve watched you rebuild your life with a strength and dignity that leaves me in awe every single day. You survived betrayal that would have broken most people, and you turned it into art, freedom, and love for your children."

I smiled, feeling a flutter in my chest that was entirely new and beautiful. "I had an extraordinary lawyer by my side."

"I don't want to just be your lawyer, Adrienne," Marcus said softly, his voice full of deep emotion. "I want to be your partner. The man who stands beside you on every red carpet, who reads your first drafts at two in the morning, and who helps you raise Mason and Elsie in a home filled with genuine love."

He didn't pull out a flashy ring to impress a camera. He simply held my hand, offering an honest, unshakeable devotion.

"I would love nothing more, Marcus," I whispered, tears of pure happiness touching my eyelashes.
