Chapter 14 - Healing Old Scars

One crisp spring evening, six months after the gala that changed everything, Arthur arrived at the Sterling Estate.
The winter snow had completely melted, replaced by a vibrant explosion of purple crocuses, golden daffodils, and sweet-smelling jasmine. The air was warm and filled with the gentle song of robins.
Lily was in the main conservatory, wearing an apron over her simple cotton dress, carefully pruning a rare strain of white winter roses she had successfully cross-bred to bloom in all four seasons.
Arthur leaned against the doorframe, watching her with that same quiet, profound intensity that had captured her heart on that freezing winter night.
"You're still getting dirt on your hands, Miss Sterling," Arthur said, a warm, teasing smile touching his lips. "You have sixty employees at the atelier who would gladly prune those for you."
Lily looked up, brushing a strand of auburn hair from her forehead with the back of her wrist, her green eyes sparkling with pure joy. "If you don't touch the soil yourself, Arthur, you forget where the flowers come from. Dirt reminds me that life can grow out of anything."
Arthur walked into the greenhouse, stopping beside the workbench. He reached out and gently took her hands, not caring about the soil smudging his tailored cuffs.
"Your father would be so proud of you, Lily," Arthur said, his voice deep and thick with emotion. "He used to tell me that true wealth isn't what you keep in your vault; it’s what you build for the people who have nothing. You saved your family, you saved my company, and... you saved me from becoming as cold as the men I was fighting."
Lily looked up into his slate-gray eyes, feeling the steady, powerful rhythm of his heartbeat beneath his shirt. "You saved me first, Arthur. You stepped out of that car when forty-seven people walked past. You saw me."

"I have seen you every single day since," Arthur whispered softly.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet box.
