Chapter 12 - The Unraveling of the Syndicate

Jonathan Sterling looked at Eleanor as if he had seen a ghost rising from the grave. "Eleanor...? You... you were supposed to be dead years ago!"

"I survived your cruelty, Jonathan," Eleanor said, her voice resonant with ten years of suppressed righteousness. "And Richard made sure that if anything happened to him, the evidence would be protected."

She opened the leather case and pulled out a stack of original patent deeds, encrypted bank ledgers, and audio recording reels.

"These are the original founding documents of Sterling Bio-Pharma," Eleanor declared, looking at the bank of news cameras. "Ten years ago, Jonathan Sterling and Julian Cross forged Richard’s signature to transfer eighty million dollars in patent rights to offshore shell corporations. They hired the drivers who forced my husband’s car off the bridge. And tonight, every single file, bank record, and signed confession has been delivered directly to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Attorney General's office."

As if on cue, the heavy glass doors of the tower lobby opened on the ground floor, and a dozen federal agents in windbreakers, accompanied by city police, poured into the penthouse.

The lead federal investigator walked straight up to Jonathan Sterling and Victoria Sterling, producing two sets of steel handcuffs.

"Jonathan Sterling, Victoria Sterling, Julian Cross—you are under arrest for corporate fraud, grand larceny, conspiracy to commit murder, and the unlawful assassination of Richard Sterling. You have the right to remain silent."

Victoria shrieked as the cold metal snapped around her manicured wrists, while Jonathan stood completely paralyzed as cameras flashed relentlessly, capturing the complete and utter destruction of their family dynasty.
