Chapter 13 - THE ULTIMATE SHOWDOWN IN CHICAGO

Dawn broke over downtown Chicago, painting the skyscrapers in cold shades of grey and bruised orange.

Inside the high-rise broadcasting studio of Chicago Global News, the heavy glass doors burst open.

Enzo Marchetti walked in, supporting Adeline Croft, followed closely by Ambrose carrying a heavy secure briefcase.

The news anchor—a prominent investigative journalist known for taking down corrupt politicians—dropped her pen as she looked up.

"Mr. Marchetti?" she stammered.

"What is the meaning of this?"

"The meaning," Enzo said coldly, stepping up to the anchor desk and setting the manila folder down, "is that Senator Thomas Vance's career is officially over."

Ambrose opened the folder, revealing the original hospital accounting ledgers, bank routing numbers, and signed authorization slips linking Senator Vance directly to the syndicate slush funds and the murder of Arthur Croft.

"Broadcast it all," Enzo commanded.

"Every page. Every name. Every wire transfer."

Within twenty minutes, the files were scanned and projected live across millions of television screens and mobile devices across the United States.

By noon, the fallout was apocalyptic.

Federal agents raided Senator Vance's campaign headquarters in downtown Chicago, dragging him out in handcuffs live on national television as he screamed hysterically about a conspiracy.

The syndicate leaders who had funded him were rounded up within hours by Enzo's enforcers, leaving the Chicago underworld completely purged of its corruption.

Inside the quiet, secure VIP lounge of the broadcasting station, Adeline sat on a leather sofa as a private medic finished bandaging her shoulder.

Enzo stood by the window, watching the police sirens flashing far below on the street.

The war was over.

May you like

The ghosts of the past had finally been laid to rest.
