Chapter 9 - The Stolen Painting and the Truth Behind the Fire

That night, Blackwood Manor was turned into a fortress. Armed private guards patrolled the perimeter with K-9 units, and high-intensity spotlights illuminated the crashing waves along the rocky coastline.
Inside the security operations room, Sebastian’s cyber-forensics team finished decrypting the micro-SD card my father had hidden.
The screen illuminated a series of high-resolution scanned documents, audio recordings, and insurance manifests from eight years ago.
"Look at this," the lead technician pointed to a shipping log dated three days before the fatal car crash of Sebastian's parents. "Arthur Blackwood purchased four million dollars in offshore untraceable corporate bonds under a shell company in the Cayman Islands. The payment cleared the morning after the crash."
"And here," I pointed to an audio waveform labeled Youth Center Boiler Inspection.
Sebastian clicked play.
A voice crackled through the speakers—unmistakably Arthur Blackwood, speaking to a building contractor: 'Disable the pressure release valves in the lower basement before midnight. Make sure the Santos man is inside. When the explosion happens, the entire evidence locker goes up in smoke. Nobody looks twice at an accidental gas leak.'
Sebastian stood frozen in front of the screen, his jaw clenching so hard a muscle twitched violently in his cheek.
Eight years of survivor's guilt, eight years of wondering if his parents' death was an accident, shattered in an instant. It was murder. Calculated, cold-blooded murder.
"He killed my mother and father," Sebastian whispered, his voice trembling with profound, devastating grief. "And he tried to burn you and your father alive to cover his tracks."
I stood up, wrapping my arms around him from behind, pressing my cheek against his broad back. "We have him now, Sebastian. His empire is finished. Your parents will finally have justice."
Sebastian turned in my arms, holding me fiercely against his chest. "We deliver this to the United States Attorney at eight o'clock tomorrow morning. After that, Arthur will spend the rest of his miserable life in a maximum-security federal penitentiary."

We thought we had anticipated every move. We thought the fortress was impenetrable.
