Chapter 8 - The Intercepted Assassin On The Highway

Realizing that his multi-billion-dollar empire was slipping through his fingers, Marcus Vance made one final, desperate, criminal gamble.
At 23:00 that evening, as our armored military transport was returning to the Virginia facility on Route 7, two heavy commercial freight trucks deliberately swerved across the highway lanes, attempting to box in our vehicle and ram us off the mountain ridge into the ravine—the exact same tactic used against my father twelve years ago.
Four masked mercenaries carrying automatic weapons jumped from the trucks, opening fire on our bulletproof windows.
The ambush failed within forty seconds.
Harrison didn't flinch. He engaged the vehicle’s tactical perimeter defense system, deploying smoke and concussive flashbangs, while two unmarked Black Hawk helicopters from Group Nine descended from the clouds with blinding spotlights.
Six elite operators fast-roped onto the asphalt, neutralizing the mercenaries with suppressed fire.
Harrison kicked open his door, tackled the mercenary leader into the guardrail, and ripped off his mask.
In the man’s tactical vest was an encrypted satellite phone displaying incoming text messages directly from Marcus Vance’s private office:
“Ensure Lieutenant Parker does not survive the night. Fifty million waiting in Zurich.”

Harrison took the phone, looked at the recording screen, and spoke into the microphone:
“Marcus. Pack your bags for federal prison. The hunt is over.”
