Chapter 11 - Evelyn Vale’s Desperate Claws and the Ironclad Prenuptial Annihilation

Thirty minutes later, the executive boardroom was cleared of all shareholders, leaving only Adrian, myself, Evelyn Vale, and her chief divorce counsel, Arthur Pendelton.

Evelyn sat at the opposite end of the table, her manicured hands shaking so violently she couldn't hold her pen. Her platinum hair was disheveled, and the arrogant socialite facade was completely gone, replaced by raw, cornered panic.

“Adrian, please,” Evelyn wept, dabbing her eyes with a silk handkerchief. “We can settle this quietly. We don't need to ruin my family’s name. We've been married for seven years. I made a mistake... Mason pursued me! He manipulated me into helping him!”

Pendelton cleared his throat nervously, adjusting his glasses. “Mr. Vale, my client is prepared to sign an immediate, uncontested dissolution of marriage under standard prenuptial terms. She will accept the twenty-million-dollar cash settlement and the Aspen property, and we will sign a comprehensive non-disclosure agreement regarding the AeroGrid incident.”

I slid a three-inch-thick black binder across the marble table, stopping it directly in front of Pendelton.

“The twenty-million-dollar settlement has been nullified,” I stated with absolute legal authority.

Pendelton frowned, flipping open the binder. “On what grounds, Ms. Donovan? The prenuptial fault clause requires proof of—”

“Clause 14, Subsection D,” I interrupted, pointing a manicured finger at the highlighted text. “Any intentional act of corporate sabotage, fraudulent transfer of joint marital equity, or criminal conspiracy that results in material financial liability to Vale Meridian Holdings results in immediate, total forfeiture of all alimony, transitional support, property claims, and non-vested trusts.”

Pendelton’s eyes scanned the page frantically. His face turned pale. “This... this clause is non-severable.”

“It is completely non-severable and was drafted under California commercial fraud precedents,” I continued calmly. “Furthermore, because Evelyn authorized the illegal transfer of two hundred and fifty million dollars from Vanguard Apex, Vale Meridian has filed a civil recovery lien against her personal jewelry collection, her private trusts, and her family’s real estate holdings in Manhattan.”

Evelyn let out a choked, hysterical shriek, slamming her hands onto the table. “You can't leave me with nothing! Adrian, I am your wife!”

Adrian looked at her, his expression entirely devoid of anger, pity, or remorse.

“You stopped being my wife the moment you conspired to destroy thirty-two thousand families to satisfy your endless greed,” Adrian said with chilling finality. “You leave this building with the clothes you are wearing and your personal vehicle. If you contest this in court, Ms. Donovan will hand the forensic wiretaps to the Department of Justice, and you will join Mason Reed in federal prison.”

Evelyn looked at Pendelton, her eyes wide with desperate pleading. “Arthur... do something! Tell him he can't do this!”

Pendelton slowly closed the binder, took off his glasses, and looked down at the table. “Sign the dissolution agreement, Evelyn. If this goes to a federal grand jury, you will be indicted by Friday.”

With trembling fingers and tears of bitter humiliation streaming down her face, Evelyn Vale picked up the pen and signed away every single penny of the Vale empire.

She threw the pen onto the table, glared at me with pure, unadulterated venom, and hissed: “You think you've won, Claire? You think he loves you? He’s a monster who cares about nothing but his balance sheets!”

“Adrian protected me when the man I trusted tried to ruin my life,” I replied steadily, holding her venomous gaze without blinking. “And unlike you, Evelyn, I actually know the value of loyalty.”

Evelyn grabbed her designer handbag and stormed out of the boardroom, her heels clicking frantically until the elevator doors closed behind her forever.

The room fell into a peaceful, golden silence.

Adrian turned to me, a warm, genuine smile lighting up his entire face.

“Brilliantly executed, Counselor.”

“We made a good team, Mr. Vale.”

“The best,” Adrian murmured, taking my hand in his. “Now... let me buy you the most expensive dinner in California.”
