Chapter 11 - The Secret Behind Her Mother's Past

Two days after the Commission’s ruling, Khloe sat in the penthouse library, going through old archival files that Enzo had recovered from Marcone's private vault.

Among the documents was an old, yellowed birth certificate and an immigration ledger from 1988 bearing her mother's maiden name: Elena Valenti.

Khloe gasped as she read the family lineage. Elena Valenti had not been a simple working-class immigrant. She was the youngest daughter of Don Lorenzo Valenti—the founding patriarch of the Sicilian council who had been overthrown forty years ago. Elena had fled to America under an assumed name to protect her unborn child from syndicate blood feuds.

Enzo entered the library, holding two cups of espresso. He saw the tears in Khloe's eyes and immediately knelt beside her chair. “What is it?”

“My mother...” Khloe whispered, handing him the document with trembling fingers. “She didn't just teach me Sicilian to survive the streets. She taught me because it was our bloodline. She gave up an empire so I could grow up free.”

Enzo read the paper, his jaw tightening with profound respect. “The Valenti bloodline is considered royalty in Palermo. That’s why your cadence was so pure. That's why you have the instincts of a leader.”

He took her hands into his own. “Your mother ran away to keep you safe from the darkness. But you came back into it to save me.”

“I don't regret it,” Khloe said, looking into his eyes. “For the first time in my life, I know exactly who I am.”
