Chapter 11 - Sins of the Past Rising from the Ashes to Tear Them Apart
The peace of Lake Geneva was shattered forty-eight hours later by an unexpected ghost from Claire’s past.
Santino entered the study where Adrian, his shoulder healing remarkably fast, was reviewing the final liquidation of the Moretti family’s illicit assets.
“Boss,” Santino said, his face unusually grim. “We have a complication. Marcus Vance just landed at O’Hare International Airport.”
Adrian’s eyes turned to cold flint. “Claire’s ex? The deadbeat who abandoned Toby?”
“The same,” Santino nodded. “Apparently, Dominic Moretti’s surviving faction tracked down Vance in Miami and paid him half a million dollars to file an emergency custody claim in Illinois family court, claiming Claire is an ‘unfit mother’ associating with dangerous criminal syndicates. They’re trying to use Toby as legal leverage to force you into a public trial.”
Adrian stood up slowly, a terrifying stillness settling over his frame. “They want to play legal games with a five-year-old child’s life?”

“Vance is currently at the Drake Hotel restaurant, meeting with Moretti’s corrupt attorneys,” Santino added.
Adrian buttoned his black suit jacket. “Prepare the helicopter. It’s time I introduce Mr. Vance to his son’s new father.”
