Chapter 5 - Arthur’s Silent Counter-Strike

Grandpa Arthur did not call my parents. He did not send them an angry text. Instead, he spent the afternoon working with his financial team, systematically cutting off the oxygen supply to my family's comfortable life.
"Your father’s real estate firm is heavily dependent on my manufacturing logistics contracts, Madison," Grandpa explained as we sat in the library. "I represent eighty percent of his annual revenue. I’ve just instructed my legal team to terminate our contract with his firm immediately, citing a breach of the ethics clause."
"What about the house?" I asked.
"The suburban mansion they live in? I bought it fifteen years ago and leased it to them for a dollar a year," Grandpa smiled, a cold, ruthless glint in his eyes. "The lease agreement has a clause regarding familial conduct. I’ve just filed an emergency motion to evict them from the property."
"And the Cadillac?"
"The car is registered to my corporate fleet, not to Lauren," Grandpa said. "I’ve flagged the vehicle as unauthorized use. If she drives it past the county line, the GPS tracker will alert the state police, and she will be pulled over for driving a stolen vehicle."

I leaned back in the leather chair, watching my grandfather coordinate the destruction of my abusers with the calm precision of a military commander. For years, my mother and sister had treated me like a servant, believing that my quiet nature made me weak. They had assumed that because I had a baby, I would never have the courage to fight back.
They had no idea that by pushing me out into the cold, they had unleashed a storm they could never survive.
