Chapter 14 - Restoring What Was Lost

Three months after the trial, the keys to the white Cadillac were finally returned to my hand.

I stood in the driveway of my new home—a beautiful, historic cottage located just a mile from Grandpa Arthur’s estate, purchased with the restored trust funds that my grandfather’s team had recovered from the liquidation of my father's firm.

The Cadillac was sparkling, completely clean, the navigation screen displaying a warm, welcoming message: Welcome Home, Madison.

"It looks good on you, Madison," Grandpa Arthur said, walking down the steps of the cottage, a warm smile on his face.

"Thank you, Grandpa," I said, tears of happiness escaping my eyes as I hugged him tightly. "For everything."

"You don't have to thank me, sweetheart," he said, kissing my forehead. "Your grandmother wanted you to have this life. I’m just making sure her wishes are carried out."

I put Noah in his brand-new, safe car seat in the back of the Cadillac, climbed into the driver's seat, and turned on the engine. The warm air moved over my hands, and the smooth hum of the vehicle filled the cabin.

For the first time in my life, I felt completely secure, completely independent, and completely free.
