Chapter 14 - The Confession Beneath the Starlight

Later that night, after the celebrations had concluded, I brought Elena back to the cliffside estate in Marblehead.

The ocean beneath the cliff was calm, reflecting a sky filled with a million brilliant stars. A gentle autumn breeze rustled the leaves of the coastal pines.

We walked out onto the wide terrace where we had stood weeks earlier during the height of the storm.

Elena leaned against the railing, looking up at the constellation of Orion. She was wearing a simple, elegant emerald-green silk dress that made her hazel eyes glow.

“Gabriel?” she said softly, breaking the quiet murmur of the waves.

“Yes, Elena?”

She turned to face me, stepping closer until only inches separated us. “The Vance trial is over. My father’s name is restored. The institute is running. You have given me more than any human being could ever ask for.”

Her voice trembled slightly with emotion.

“And now?” I asked, my heart beating with an intensity I hadn't felt in twenty years.

“And now... I don't want to leave,” she whispered, looking up into my eyes with pure, unfiltered love. “When I was in that dining room and that boiling tea hit my arm, I thought my life was over. But when you took off that ring and knelt beside me... I saw a man of true honor. I didn't fall in love with the billionaire or the empire, Gabriel. I fell in love with you.”

I closed the distance between us, wrapping my arms around her waist and pulling her against my chest.

“Elena,” I murmured, my voice thick with emotion. “From the moment I saw the fire in your eyes in that dining room, my empire meant nothing to me if you were not by my side. You brought light into a life that was filled with shadows and war.”

I leaned down and pressed my lips to hers.

The kiss was deep, passionate, and filled with the promise of eternity. The ocean waves crashed against the rocks below, sealing a bond forged in fire, tested by battle, and purified by truth.

When I finally pulled back, I reached into my coat pocket.

I pulled out a small velvet box and opened it under the starlight.

Inside rested a magnificent ten-carat flawless blue diamond ring, set in platinum and surrounded by a halo of brilliant white diamonds—a jewel custom-crafted to match the brilliance of her spirit.

I dropped to one knee before her on the cedar planks.

“Elena Brooks,” I said, looking into the eyes of the woman who had conquered my soul. “Will you do me the absolute honor of becoming my wife?”

Elena covered her mouth, tears of overwhelming joy spilling down her cheeks.

May you like

“Yes!” she cried, throwing her arms around my neck as I stood up. “A thousand times, yes!”

I slid the blue diamond onto her finger, sealing our destiny forever.
