Chapter 12 - The Courtroom of Absolute Judgment

The federal trial of Arthur and Camille Vance became the trial of the century.

The courtroom was packed to maximum capacity with international journalists, legal scholars, and dozens of former patients who had suffered under Vance Pharmaceuticals' counterfeit drugs.

Arthur Vance sat at the defense table, his hair completely white, his shoulders slumped in total defeat. Camille sat beside him, bound in heavy wrist and ankle shackles, flanked by four armed federal marshals.

The prosecution called their star witness to the stand.

“The United States calls Elena Brooks,” the federal prosecutor announced.

The heavy wooden doors opened.

Elena walked down the center aisle of the courtroom with grace, dignity, and absolute poise. She wore a tailored charcoal suit, her dark hair cascading neatly over her shoulders. She showed no fear, no hesitation, and no hatred. Only the calm, unyielding strength of pure truth.

She took the oath, placed her hand on the Bible, and looked directly at the jury.

For three hours, Elena delivered a masterclass in forensic testimony. With razor-sharp medical precision, she walked the court through the altered lab reports, the forged patient consent forms, and the financial trail proving that Arthur and Camille had orchestrated the entire conspiracy.

When the defense attorney attempted to cross-examine her, trying to paint her as a disgruntled former employee seeking financial gain, Elena dismantled him with effortless intellect.

“I didn't bring these documents forward for money,” Elena testified, her voice echoing through the silent courtroom. “I brought them forward because fifty-two innocent people lost their mobility, and my father’s honor was stolen to protect corporate profits. Justice is not for sale.”

The courtroom erupted into spontaneous applause, forcing the judge to repeatedly strike his gavel.

It took the federal jury less than two hours to return a verdict.

Guilty on all forty-eight counts.

The judge looked down from the bench with severe gravity.

“Arthur Vance: for the crimes of corporate racketeering, medical manslaughter, securities fraud, and evidence tampering, you are hereby sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole at ADX Florence.”

Arthur Vance collapsed onto the defense table, sobbing uncontrollably.

The judge turned his gaze upon Camille Vance.

“Camille Vance: for the crimes of conspiracy to commit murder, money laundering, prison escape, and arson, you are sentenced to forty-five years in federal prison without eligibility for parole.”

Camille screamed in terror as the federal marshals pulled her to her feet, dragging her through the side door as her cries echoed into the hall of justice.

Justice had finally arrived.
