Chapter 8 - The Sabotage at the Harbor Gala

The Grand Bayview Hotel was ablaze with light and opulent grandeur. Over five hundred of the city’s elite—senators, judges, billionaire industrialists, and high-ranking syndicate bosses—mingled beneath towering crystal chandeliers.

Josie made her entrance on the arm of Dominic Relli, and the grand ballroom fell into an instant, reverent hush.

She wore a breathtaking, midnight-blue silk gown that cascaded to the floor like liquid starlight, hugging her slender frame with regal grace. Her bare shoulders glowed under the chandeliers, and a delicate diamond pendant—a gift from Dominic that afternoon—rested at the hollow of her throat. Beside her, Dominic looked magnificent in a bespoke black tuxedo, his imposing presence commanding absolute deference from every corner of the room.

As they moved through the crowd, Josie carried her operational tablet, subtly monitoring the digital cargo manifests and shipping logistics displayed on the private corporate hub.

Near the champagne fountain, Arthur Vance and Lorenzo Moretti stood observing them with venomous stares.

"She looks like a princess," Lorenzo muttered darkly. "Enjoy your crown, Miss Whitaker. It will not last past midnight."

At 10:15 PM, while Dominic was engaged in a tense diplomatic discussion with the state port commissioner, Josie slipped into the private executive lounge adjacent to the ballroom to review the midnight shift logs.

As she tapped her security token into the terminal, her sharp eyes caught a sudden, glaring anomaly in the Relli logistics network.

A massive shipment of high-grade industrial electronics scheduled to depart Pier 7 had just been rerouted through an unmonitored holding bay—and the digital authorization signature bore her personal encrypted executive ID code.

Josie’s fingers flew across the glass screen with lightning speed.

"This wasn't authorized by me," Josie whispered to herself, her pulse spiking.

She dug deeper into the server's back-end code, stripping away the proxy firewalls. Within seconds, her brilliant technical mind unraveled the trap: someone had cloned her network credentials from the main lobby server three days ago—using Priscilla Vance’s old terminal—and was currently routing illegal contraband through the Relli shipping containers to trigger an immediate federal raid.

Worse, the digital timestamp showed the federal raid was scheduled to strike Pier 7 in exactly twenty minutes.

Josie grabbed her phone to alert Dominic, but before she could dial, the lounge door clicked open.

Arthur Vance stepped inside, a cold, mocking sneer plastered across his face.

"Reviewing your new empire, Miss Whitaker?" Vance mocked, quietly locking the heavy mahogany door behind him. "I'm afraid your reign as Executive Director has come to an abrupt end. The FBI is already surrounding Pier 7. When they open those shipping containers and find thirty million dollars of unregistered arms registered under your personal signature, you'll be spending the next thirty years in a federal penitentiary."

Josie didn't panic. She stood up slowly, clutching her tablet, her gaze ice-cold.

"You're too late, Vance," Josie said calmly.

Vance frowned, his smirk faltering. "What are you talking about?"

Josie turned the tablet screen toward him.

"While you were standing by the champagne fountain congratulating yourself, I isolated the rogue IP address routing through your private home network in Boston. I executed a manual override under Emergency Protocol 9. The cargo at Pier 7 has already been redirected into federal holding custody under your name, and the entire audit trail detailing your financial transactions with Lorenzo Moretti was forwarded to Dominic’s private security terminal forty seconds ago."

Arthur Vance’s face turned an ashen shade of gray. "You... you lying bitch—"

May you like

Vance lunged forward, his hands clawing toward her throat.

Before he could bridge the gap, the heavy mahogany double doors exploded inward with a deafening crash of splintering wood.
