“Wife, waitress, liability,” Dante shrugged dismissively, pouring two glasses of scotch.
“Does it really matter what title you give a dead woman?”
“You think you hold all the cards, Dante,” Matteo walked slowly toward the desk.
“I control this city,” Dante sneered, raising his glass.
“Every cop, every politician, every dockworker.”
“You’re just a ghost trying to play king again.”
“Maybe,” Matteo stopped ten feet away.
“But ghosts don't feel pain.”
Suddenly, the lights in the penthouse flickered and died.
Total darkness plunged the room into shadow.
Gunfire erupted from the doorway!
Salatore had triggered the EMP device from the lobby downstairs.
The two guards by the door scrambled in confusion.
Before they could raise their weapons, Lena fired twice in the dark.
Muzzle flashes illuminated the room like lightning.
Both guards dropped instantly.
Dante scrambled for the pistol resting on his mahogany desk.
Matteo lunged across the desk, pinning Dante’s arm against the wood with bone-crushing force.

The pistol clattered away across the floor.
“It’s over, Dante,” Matteo hissed, pressing his forearm against Dante’s throat.
