Chapter 10 - The Ultimate Ultimatum

Ryan collapsed forward, burying his face in his hands, weeping openly like a terrified child. The swagger and arrogance he had displayed at the Thanksgiving table had completely evaporated.

Thomas stood trembling in the middle of the boardroom, looking like an old, broken man. He fell to his knees in front of my chair, tears streaming down his wrinkled cheeks.

"Claire..." he wept, reaching out toward my hands, though he didn't dare touch them. "Please. I was a blind, foolish father. I favored my son because of my own pride. I ruined your youth. I stole your happiness. If you let this company die, hundreds of innocent warehouse workers will lose their livelihoods before Christmas. Please... save the employees. Punish me, punish Ryan, but save the company."

I looked down at my father. For years, I had dreamed of this moment—dreamed of seeing the man who discarded me finally realize how wrong he was. But looking at him kneeling on the floor, I didn't feel petty satisfaction; I only felt a deep sense of closure.

I stood up from my chair, looking down at Thomas and Ryan with absolute authority.

"Mercer Holdings will execute the fifty-million-dollar acquisition," I announced.

Thomas’s head snapped up, his eyes wide with disbelief and overwhelming relief. "You... you will? Oh God, Claire, thank you! Thank you—"

"I am not finished," I interrupted, my voice cutting off his gratitude instantly.

Julian stepped forward, signaling Marcus Vance to slide a new legal document across the table.

"Here are the non-negotiable terms of the buyout," I stated clearly:

"First: Ryan Bennett will be immediately terminated from all positions within Bennett Logistics. He will sign a full confession regarding the 4.2 million dollar embezzlement. He will forfeit every asset in his name—his Manhattan penthouse, his luxury vehicles, and his entire trust fund—to reimburse the company pension fund. If he complies, we will not hand the files over to the FBI today. If he violates a single term, he will spend the next fifteen years in federal prison."

Ryan looked up, sobbing, and nodded frantically. "I'll sign! I'll sign everything! Just don't send me to prison!"

"Second," I continued, looking directly at Thomas. "You, Father, will step down as CEO immediately. You and Mother will surrender all executive shares and voting rights. You will retain a minor, non-voting dividend that will allow you to keep your house in Greenwich and live a modest life, but you will never step foot inside a Bennett Logistics facility ever again."

Thomas swallowed hard, his shoulders slumping in defeat. "And... who will run the company?"

May you like

I looked him dead in the eye.

"I will."
