Chapter 12 - The Testimony That Took Away Victor Sloane’s Power

Maya spent six days recovering before she gave her statement.

She insisted on speaking for herself. The prosecutor offered to record it privately, but Maya wanted Victor to see her face.

She described the killing she had witnessed, the falsified patient transfers, and the threats made against Evelyn. Her notebook matched the bank records and the memory card.

Victor's lawyers called her unreliable. They pointed to her medical history and the prescriptions she needed.

Maya held up the original prescription bottle.

"Needing medicine does not make me a liar," she said.

Evelyn testified next. Naomi explained how the transfer forms had been forged. Lorenzo provided company records showing the payments Victor had concealed.

I sat behind Maya and watched her keep her shoulders straight.

After the hearing, the judge ordered Victor held pending trial. Several associates were charged, and the investigation widened.

No single speech solved everything. There were more interviews, more waiting rooms, more days when I feared a technicality would erase what we had fought to prove.
