Chapter 14 - THE LEGACY OF LE JARDIN NOIR

Five years later.

Le Jardin Noir remained the premier restaurant in Chicago, though its back-alley reputation had long since faded into local legend.

On Friday evenings, diners would often whisper about the legendary night a waitress exposed a federal spy with a silver fork—though most locals dismissed it as an exaggerated urban myth told by tourists.

Inside the private penthouse suite of Callahan Tower, Sophie sat at her mahogany desk, reviewing the annual impact report for the Callahan Foundation.

The door opened quietly.

Christian walked in, carrying a sleeping four-year-old boy with dark curls and bright, curious eyes—their son, Leo Callahan.

Christian gently laid the boy down on the velvet sofa in the corner, covering him with a cashmere blanket, before walking over to Sophie's desk.

He leaned down, resting his hands on the arms of her chair, and pressed a kiss to the top of her head.

"You're working late again, Mrs. Callahan," he murmured.

"Just finishing the scholarship grants for the south side high schools," Sophie smiled, spinning her chair around to face him. "We have three hundred new applicants this semester."

Christian wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close. "Let the foundation run itself for one night. Come outside."

He led her out onto the private terrace.

The Chicago skyline sparkled like a field of diamonds against the night sky. The harbor lights danced across the dark water, and the city below hummed with peaceful, prosperous life.

Sophie rested her head against Christian’s chest, listening to the steady, reassuring beat of his heart.
