Chapter 13 - THE VOWS BY THE LAKE

The wedding took place in late spring on the sprawling lawns of the Callahan estate overlooking Lake Michigan.
There were no federal agents, no hidden wiretaps, and no shadow syndicates plotting in the dark.
Just family, trusted friends, and a community of people whose lives had been forever changed for the better.
Martha Miller sat in the front row, glowing with health and happiness, wiping a joyful tear from her cheek as her daughter walked down the aisle on the arm of Leo Romanov (who had proudly insisted on playing the role of honorary uncle).
Christian stood at the altar in a sharp tuxedo, his eyes shining with an emotion he had never permitted himself to feel until the day a waitress dropped a fork on his table.
Father Thomas, officiating the ceremony, smiled as they exchanged their vows.
"I now pronounce you husband and wife," the priest announced. "You may kiss the bride."

Christian pulled Sophie close, pressing his lips to hers as the guests cheered and white rose petals rained down from above.
