Chapter 15 - The Dawn of Mercy and the Miracle in Room 412-C

One year after the midnight ambush, a crisp, golden autumn morning bathed Atlanta in warm sunlight.
Ward Four had been completely renovated. The sterile, cold dread that once hung in its corridors was gone, replaced by warm hardwood accents, large sunlit windows, living plants, and the gentle sounds of acoustic music.
Room 412-C was no longer a place of quiet horror. It had been transformed into the Ward Four Family Sanctuary—a bright, welcoming lounge where recovering patients, their families, and staff could sit, read, and find peace.
Marcus stood by the window of Room 412-C, holding a warm cup of coffee, looking at the city below.
The door swung open, and a tall, broad-shouldered man with a bright smile walked in. Darius Williams looked radiant, his athletic frame fully restored through months of intensive physical therapy. Beside him walked Captain Miller of Engine 7.
"Chief Marcus," Darius greeted with a booming laugh, extending a powerful hand that Marcus gripped warmly.
"Captain Williams," Marcus smiled. "I saw the news this morning. The medical board officially cleared you for full active duty."
"Station 7 needed their lead rescuer back," Darius said, his dark eyes sparkling with genuine joy. "Though I have to admit, I’m going to miss sleeping for twenty hours a day."
They both laughed—a clean, cathartic sound that chased away the lingering ghosts of the past.
Just then, Tiana stepped into the room carrying one-year-old Grace in her arms, accompanied by her husband David. The little girl had bright, curious eyes and let out a delighted squeal when she saw Darius.
"Uncle Darius!" Tiana said warmly, handing the smiling toddler into the firefighter’s gentle, massive arms.
Darius held the little girl carefully, looking down at her with pure, protective tenderness. "Hey there, little Grace. You’re looking stronger every day."
"She gets that from the people who fought for her," Tiana said softly, her eyes shining with profound gratitude as she looked at Marcus and Darius. "From both of you."
Marcus looked around the sun-drenched room. One year ago, this space was an isolated prison of silence, fear, and corruption. Today, it was filled with laughter, new life, unbreakable brotherhood, and the triumphant light of justice.
