Chapter 11 - The Awakening of Darius Williams
At Loading Dock B, a large unmarked black medical transport bus sat idling with its exhaust fuming into the cold rain. Tiana Brown and four other nurses, all weeping and flanked by Sterling’s armed security guards, were being forced up the boarding ramp.
Beside the bus, the private hospice van had its rear doors swung wide open. Two orderlies were wheeling Darius’s gurney into the cargo bay.
Dr. Roger Sterling stood beneath a large black umbrella, overseeing the operation with cold, calculating detachment. "Hurry it up! I want these vehicles on the interstate before the midnight storm worsens!"
Inside the gurney, Darius Williams felt the cold rain lash against his face.
The sensory shock of the freezing water acted like an adrenaline injection directly into his awakened brain. Every muscle fiber in his body screamed with three years of stored energy. He heard Tiana weeping twenty feet away. He heard Sterling’s arrogant commands.
Not today, Darius roared in the silent cathedral of his mind. NOT TODAY!
As the two orderlies lifted the gurney’s rear wheels to shove it into the van, Darius’s eyes snapped wide open.
With a deafening, guttural roar born of absolute fury, Darius ripped his arms free from the nylon transport restraints. His massive, scarred firefighter’s hands shot upward, grabbing both orderlies by the collars of their jackets.
With a single, explosive heave of sheer athletic power, Darius slammed their heads together with a sickening crunch. The orderlies crumpled to the wet concrete like ragdolls.

Darius rolled off the gurney, his bare feet hitting the asphalt. His legs buckled for a split second under the unaccustomed weight, but his iron will refused to let him fall. He grabbed the heavy steel IV pole beside him, spinning it like a combat staff, and stood upright in the storm.
"WHAT IN GOD’S NAME?!" Sterling screamed, stumbling backward in sheer terror as his three-year comatose patient rose like a vengeful titan from the grave.
