Chapter 9 - THE TIDES TURN IN ROME

The revelation hung in the smoke-filled kitchen like a live grenade.

Thirteen years of love, shattered by deceit, suddenly pieced back together in the middle of a firefight.

Before I could process his words, the distant sound of roaring engines echoed through the woods.

Vans.

Dozens of them.

The Vitale enforcers had arrived.

Heavy gunfire erupted outside as Marcus and his tactical units swarmed the property, trapping the Moretti assassins in a deadly crossfire.

Shouts and screams faded into the crackle of burning timber.

Ten minutes later, the kitchen door swung wide open.

Marcus stepped inside, his assault rifle lowered, blood smeared across his cheek.

“The perimeter is secured, Boss,” Marcus reported breathlessly.

“Six captured, three neutralized.”

Alessandro stood up slowly, keeping his eyes locked on mine.

“Get the cleanup crew,” Alessandro ordered without breaking eye contact.

“And prepare the private jet.”

“We’re going back to Rome.”

“Why Rome?” I asked, stepping closer to him.

“Because it’s time to settle accounts,” Alessandro replied, his voice cold as winter steel.

“The Moretti family wanted a war.”

“We’re going to give them a massacre.”

As we climbed into the armored vehicle parked down the logging road, I realized something fundamental.
