Chapter 5 - THE UNRATIFIED ALLIANCE

Back at the Rome headquarters of the Vitale syndicate, chaos reigned supreme.

Senior capos and regional bosses shouted over one another in the grand conference room.

“The Moretti family is demanding we ratify the territorial treaty today!” shouted Rossi, the oldest captain in the syndicate.

“Without Serena’s signature on the asset transfer forms, the banks won't release our capital!”

Marco slammed his fist onto the mahogany table.

“Shut up, all of you!” Marco roared.

“The Don is not taking meetings today!”

“Then where is he?” another capo demanded.

“He went after her.”

“After a woman?” Rossi scoffed in disgust.

“A woman nearly destroyed this family before she even became our matriarch!”

“Watch your tongue, Rossi,” a cold voice echoed from the shadows of the doorway.

Alessandro stepped into the conference room.

His face was carved from granite.

His eyes held the terrifying emptiness of a predator denied its prey.

He walked slowly to the head of the table and sat down.

No one dared to breathe.

“The treaty with the Morettis is canceled,” Alessandro said quietly.

Silence fell over the room like an avalanche.

“Canceled?” Rossi stammered.

“Don Vitale, without the Moretti alliance, the northern shipping lanes are open to federal raids!”

“Let them be raided,” Alessandro said, resting his hands flat on the wood.

“I spent thirteen years building an empire to keep Serena safe.”

“And I let a viper into my bed because I thought I was invincible.”

“Listen to me very carefully.”

“From this moment on, anyone who mentions Bianca Moretti’s name in this building answers to me.”

“And anyone who attempts to harm a single hair on Serena Bellini’s head...”

Alessandro drew his silver-plated Beretta and laid it gently on the table.

“Will meet the same fate as my father’s assassins.”

Marcus watched his boss with a mixture of awe and dread.

He knew Alessandro loved me.

What Alessandro didn't yet know was that the Moretti family wasn't waiting for a treaty.

They were preparing a declaration of war.
