Chapter 7 - The Billionaire Who Trusted His Mother Had to Choose Between His Company and His Son

Adrian wanted to call his attorneys immediately.

June stopped him.

"Your mother owns their loyalty," she warned.

We sat in a rented apartment above a pharmacy.

Noah slept beneath a yellow blanket.

I kept checking the windows.

Every passing car sounded like a threat.

Adrian spread company reports across the table.

I understood little of the engineering.

But I understood dates.

The questionable approvals preceded Claire's death.

And the signatures continued afterward.

"Your wife was collecting evidence," I said.

Adrian stared at the papers.

"She told me something was wrong."

"What did you say?"

He looked away.

"I told her Mother handled compliance."

The silence afterward hurt more than shouting.

I thought of Noah hiding beneath his bed.

How many warnings had everyone dismissed?

Adrian made a phone call.

Not to his lawyers.

To a federal aviation investigator.

He requested an urgent private meeting.

Then he signed a statement preserving evidence.

His hand shook at the bottom.

"This could destroy the company," he said.

"Maybe," I answered.

"But hiding it could destroy other families."

He looked at me for a long moment.

"You sound like Claire."

I didn't know how to answer.

That evening, he apologized to Noah.

Not vaguely.

Not with gifts.

He named the things he'd ignored.

The locked doors.

The frightening nights.

The accusations.

Noah listened without moving.

Then he asked one question.

"Will you believe me tomorrow too?"

Adrian began crying.

He held out his hand.

May you like

"Every tomorrow," he whispered.

Noah took it.
