Chapter 13 - The Billionaire Offered Me a Fortune to Stay, but I Asked Him for Something Money Couldn't Buy

Adrian invited me into his office.

For once, the door remained open.

He placed a folder on his desk.

Inside was a generous employment offer.

A salary beyond anything I'd imagined.

Health insurance.

Paid leave.

A housing allowance.

He watched me read it.

"You deserve security," he said.

"So does Noah."

I closed the folder.

"I don't want to be paid for silence."

His expression changed.

"That's not what this is."

"Then promise me something."

"Name it."

"No more secret rules about Noah."

He nodded.

"No closed-door punishments."

"Agreed."

"No dismissing his fears because they're inconvenient."

Adrian looked down.

"Agreed."

I pushed the folder back toward him.

"And hire a qualified child therapist."

"Already arranged."

I smiled for the first time that morning.

"Then I might stay a little longer."

He exhaled.

"Thank you, Emma."

I thought about the gate officer's warning.

Good luck.

Perhaps luck had brought me here.

But luck wasn't what changed Noah's life.

Listening did.
