Chapter 15 - The Vow on Puget Sound

On a warm, breathtaking evening in August, our real wedding took place.
We didn't hold it in a courtroom or behind sealed steel doors. We held it on the sun-drenched cliffs of Puget Sound, aboard Luca’s private yacht, surrounded by two hundred friends, colleagues, reformed associates, and the medical staff who had saved our daughter’s life.
The sky above Seattle was a masterpiece of purple, gold, and crimson fire as the sun dipped behind the Olympic Mountains.
I walked down the white aisle laid out across the teak deck, wearing a breathtaking gown of French lace and flowing silk that trailed behind me like a summer breeze. In my hands, I held a bouquet of white roses and green emerald ivy.
Walking ahead of me as our flower girl was Emma, dressed in a miniature white princess gown, proudly tossing rose petals onto the deck, grinning from ear to ear.
And waiting at the end of the aisle stood Luca.
He wore a bespoke midnight-blue tuxedo, looking impossibly handsome, regal, and proud. But as I drew closer, I saw the raw, glistening emotion in his dark brown eyes—the look of a man who knew he had found his salvation.
When I reached him, he took both of my hands in his. His touch was warm, steady, and filled with an eternity of devotion.
The officiant smiled, stepping back to let us speak our vows.
Luca looked down at me, his voice deep, clear, and resonant across the quiet water.
“Ava,” Luca spoke, his words carrying the weight of a sacred oath. “I entered your life as a storm, carrying the burdens of debts and darkness. But the moment you looked at me in that diner, with your spirit unbroken and your love for our daughter burning like a beacon in the night, you changed my world forever.”
He slipped a breathtaking platinum ring set with a flawless five-carat emerald and surrounded by diamonds onto my finger.
“I promise to be your shield in times of war, your peace in times of sorrow, and your partner in every joy this life brings. I promise to love, protect, and cherish you and Emma with every breath in my body, until the stars fall from the sky. You are my queen, my heart, and my home.”
Tears of pure, overwhelming happiness flowed freely down my cheeks. I looked into the eyes of my protector, my husband, my love.
“Luca,” I choked out, my voice trembling with profound gratitude. “You carried me when I could barely stand. You gave my daughter her breath, her laughter, and her future. You turned my nightmare into a fairytale built on honor and love.”
I slid a matching platinum band onto his finger.
“I promise to stand beside you in all things, to love you without fear, and to give you a home filled with light for the rest of our days. I am yours, Luca Castellano. Completely and forever.”
“By the power vested in me by the truth of your love,” the officiant declared with a broad smile, “I pronounce you husband and wife. Don Luca, you may kiss your bride.”
Luca didn't hesitate.
He wrapped his arms around my waist, lifting me slightly off the deck, and brought his lips down onto mine in a breathtaking, passionate kiss that echoed with the cheers and applause of everyone who loved us.
Emma ran up, wrapping her little arms around both of our legs. Luca laughed, scooping our daughter up between us, holding us both in his invincible embrace as the crowd showered us with white rose petals.
As the fireworks lit up the Seattle night sky in shimmering bursts of emerald, gold, and sapphire, reflecting across the peaceful waters of Elliott Bay, I looked out at the city that had once brought me so much pain.
The exhausted waitress on table twelve was gone.
In her place stood a woman cherished, a mother triumphant, and a Donna beloved beyond measure.
