Chapter 12 - Blood on the Docks and the Final Stand

Gunfire cracked through the cold rain like thunderbolts.

Castellano’s elite operators advanced with ruthless, clockwork precision, systematically neutralizing Sergei’s Russian mercenaries before they could even find cover.

In the chaos, Jake Martinez panicked. Seeing Sergei fall and his dreams of millions evaporating into blood and smoke, Jake lunged forward, grabbing me by the hair and pulling me against him, pressing the jagged edge of the iron wrench against my throat.

“Back off!” Jake shrieked, his voice cracking with hysteria. “Stay back, Castellano! I’ll crush her skull! I swear to God I’ll do it!”

Pain flared in my scalp, but looking across the wet concrete, I saw Luca walking directly toward us. He had dropped his shotgun. He held nothing in his hands.

His dark eyes were locked entirely on Jake.

“Let her go, Jake,” Luca said softly.

“I want a helicopter! I want five million dollars in cash and safe passage to the border!” Jake screamed, saliva flying from his lips. “Or she dies right now!”

“You have five seconds,” Luca murmured, closing the distance to ten feet. “Four. Three.”

With a sudden burst of adrenaline and maternal fury, I remembered everything Jake had done—the empty bank accounts, Emma gasping for air in that freezing apartment, the terror he had inflicted on my baby.

I didn't wait for Luca to save me.

I drove my elbow backward with all the force in my body directly into Jake’s solar plexus. At the same time, I stomped the hard, carbon-fiber heel of my supportive boot straight onto Jake’s instep.

Jake howled in pain, his grip slipping from my hair.

I tore myself free and dropped to the wet concrete.

In that split second, Luca closed the distance like a striking panther.

Luca’s left hand caught Jake’s wrist, twisting it until the iron wrench fell with a clang, while his right fist struck Jake’s jaw with the force of a battering ram.

CRACK!

Bone shattered. Jake was lifted off his feet and slammed down hard onto the rain-soaked wooden planks of the pier.

Jake whimpered, spitting blood and broken teeth, crawling backward toward the edge of the dock where the black, freezing waves of Puget Sound churned thirty feet below.

“Please...” Jake wept, clutching his broken jaw. “Please, Luca... don't kill me... I’m Emma’s father... you can’t kill her father...”

Luca stood over him, towering like a giant carved of granite and storm.

“You are not her father,” Luca said, his voice dropping into a register of absolute, sovereign judgment. “A father protects. A father provides. You were merely a parasite that infected Arthur Carter’s legacy.”

Luca looked down at the whimpering coward.

“Your debt in Seattle is settled, Jake. Forever.”

Luca grabbed Jake by the collar of his designer shirt and hurled him over the edge into the churning, icy abyss of Elliott Bay. Jake’s scream was swallowed instantly by the roaring waves and the dark, unforgiving depths of the Pacific ocean.

Behind us, Sergei Volkov was pinned to the ground by Dante’s boots, cuffed in heavy steel zip-ties, his syndicate broken beyond repair.

Luca turned away from the edge.

He walked over to where I was kneeling on the wet concrete. His ruthless, terrifying expression melted into pure, desperate concern.

He dropped to his knees in the puddles, pulling me against his broad, armored chest, his arms wrapping around me so tightly I could barely breathe.

“Ava,” he breathed, burying his face in my wet hair, his powerful frame trembling slightly with the aftershock of adrenaline. “Are you hurt? Did he touch you?”

I wrapped my arms around his neck, burying my face into his throat, crying tears of sheer relief against his warm skin.

“I’m okay,” I sobbed. “I’m okay because of you.”

Luca pulled back, his large, scarred hands framing my face, wiping away the rain and tears with infinite tenderness.

“It’s over, Ava,” he whispered, his dark brown eyes filled with an ocean of love that could no longer be hidden. “The monsters are gone. You and Emma are safe forever.”

And there, in the pouring rain on the bloodstained docks of Seattle, Luca pressed his lips to mine—a kiss of absolute victory, eternal protection, and unbreakable devotion.
