Chapter 12 - The Web of Greed Exposed

In the weeks that followed the arrests, Chadworth made sweeping changes to his life.

He resigned from three executive corporate boards, handed daily operational control of his real-estate conglomerate to a trusted executive committee, and officially restricted his work schedule to four hours a day from his home office.

The private jet sat idle in the hangar. There were no more spontaneous trips to Canada, London, or Tokyo. Chadworth was at the kitchen table every morning making pancakes for Lorelai and Gemma, and he was at the front gate every afternoon to welcome them home from school.

Sabina Vance and Julian Croft were convicted on all counts in a high-profile federal trial, receiving consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole at a maximum-security federal correctional facility.

One sunny Saturday morning, Chadworth invited Rosamund into his newly renovated private study—a room now filled with framed photographs of Eleanor, Lorelai, and Gemma, rather than corporate trophies.

Rosamund walked in, dressed in a simple casual sweater and jeans. She had formally resigned from her housekeeping position two weeks prior, staying only at the estate’s guest cottage while completing her legal depositions for the Department of Justice.

“You asked to see me, Chadworth?” Rosamund asked with a polite smile.

“Please, sit down, Rosa,” Chadworth said warmly, gesturing to the leather armchair opposite his desk.

Chadworth slid a thick, bound legal portfolio across the desk toward her.

Rosamund looked at the cover in confusion. “What is this?”

“Open it,” he said gently.

Rosamund opened the portfolio. Her eyes widened as she read the legal documents inside.

It was the incorporation charter for the Clara & Eleanor Foundation for Child Protection and Forensic Justice, endowed with a fifty-million-dollar initial grant from the Prescott family trust. The charter designated Rosamund Kelly as the permanent Executive Director and majority trustee, with full authority to provide legal aid, private investigative resources, and safe housing for domestic abuse victims and vulnerable children nationwide.

Attached to the foundation charter was a secondary deed: the full ownership transfer of Clara Vance’s historic family estate in Chicago, which Chadworth had quietly repurchased from bankruptcy auction and restored to its original glory.

“Chadworth... I can't accept this,” Rosamund whispered, tears welling in her eyes. “This is millions of dollars... it’s too much.”

“It’s not a gift, Rosa,” Chadworth replied, his voice filled with deep sincerity and respect. “It’s justice. You spent six years of your life living in the shadows, fighting for the truth when no one else would listen. You risked your freedom and your life to protect my daughters. You have the purest heart of anyone I have ever known. There is no one on this planet I trust more to lead this foundation and protect other families from suffering what we went through.”
