Chapter 9 - The Kidnapping on Rainey Street
The ambush was sudden and violent.
As Claire reached the private garage, smoke grenades filled the corridor. Elias Reed drew his weapon, taking down two assailants, but a heavy blow from behind knocked him to the ground.
Before Claire could scream, a chloroform-soaked rag covered her mouth and nose. Darkness swallowed her whole.
Ten minutes later, Gabriel found Elias bleeding on the concrete. In his hand was Claire’s diamond hairpin, snapped in two.
A roar of pure, unadulterated rage tore from Gabriel Mercer’s chest—a sound so terrifying that even the hardened security team backed away in fear.

“Lock down every exit from this city,” Gabriel commanded in a voice of lethal ice. “Deploy every operative. If a single hair on her head is harmed, I will burn this entire city to ash.”
