Chapter 12 - The Federal Trap
Sirens wailed in the distance.
Assistant District Attorney Nathan Miller and a convoy of federal vehicles surrounded Berth 14, weapons drawn.
“Gabriel Mercer! Step away with your hands visible!” Miller shouted over a megaphone.
Vance Sterling, dragged out in handcuffs by Elias, began screaming to the prosecutors: “Arrest Mercer! He runs the illegal weapons shipments! It’s all his!”
Claire stepped forward, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Gabriel. From her coat, she produced a waterproof flash drive containing the complete decoded communications, financial ledgers, and audio recordings of Sterling and Pike’s treason.
“District Attorney Miller,” Claire announced in a clear, commanding voice. “My name is Claire Bennett. I am the daughter of Dr. Thomas Bennett. This drive contains the complete paper trail proving Mr. Mercer was running a private sting operation to dismantle the serpent trafficking ring.”

Miller took the drive, inserted it into his field laptop, and watched the irrefutable evidence unfold.
Miller looked at Vance Sterling with utter disgust. “Take Sterling into maximum security federal custody. Mr. Mercer... Miss Bennett... you have our thanks.”
