While they were inside the security suite, Warren Pike and Vance Sterling realized their assassin had failed.
Panic turned into desperate savagery.
Sterling slipped out of the gala and met Pike in an underground garage. “The girl is the key! She’s the one who cracked the cipher! Without her, Mercer has no legal proof before the board meeting tomorrow morning!”

Pike spat on the concrete, his face twisted in malice. “Then we take the girl. We lure Mercer to Berth 14, eliminate both of them, and sink the evidence in the bay.”
Using a compromised security guard, Pike’s operatives tracked Claire’s movements as she stepped out toward the private elevator to retrieve her father’s notebook from Gabriel’s vehicle.
