Chapter 13 - THE FINAL CONFESSION IN THE DARK

The bullet struck the car’s rear tire with a loud pop.

The getaway sedan swerved wildly, crashing hard into a stack of empty pallets.

Marco stumbled out of the wrecked vehicle, dragging Chloe with him, bleeding from a gash on his forehead.

“Stay back!” Marco screamed, pressing his pistol against Chloe’s chest.

I walked slowly out of the shadows, my revolver locked steadily on Marco’s heart.

“It’s over, Marco,” I said, my voice ice-cold.

“The ledger is in my hand, and your men are dead or captured.”

Marco laughed hysterically, blood dripping into his eye.

“You think killing me changes anything?”

“Dante Moretti is just as much a monster as my father was!”

“Tell her, Dante!” Marco shouted as Dante stepped out from the warehouse shadows.

“Tell her who ordered the hit on her mother twenty years ago!”

Dante stopped ten feet away, his face carved from granite.

“My father ordered it, Marco,” Dante said quietly.

“And I killed my father to avenge her.”

“You didn't know!” Marco snarled.

“You were just a kid playing mobster!”

“I know enough to end this bloodline tonight,” Dante replied, raising his pistol.

“No, Dante!” I cried out, lowering my gun slightly.

“Not like this.”

Marco saw his opening, shoved Chloe toward me, and lunged at Dante with a hidden switchblade.
