Chapter 15 - The Only Vow That Ever Mattered (THE END)

One year later.
St. Jude’s Cathedral looked entirely different than it had on that stormy September afternoon.
The heavy oak doors were thrown wide open, letting in the golden, sun-drenched warmth of a perfect June afternoon. The cathedral was filled not with armed bodyguards and political schemers, but with hundreds of friends, legitimate business partners, diner patrons from the West Side, and loyal Romano soldiers wearing bright boutonnieres.
At the front of the altar stood Arthur Romano.
He wore a bespoke black tuxedo, his posture tall, proud, and radiating an aura of untouchable joy. Beside him stood Leo Barnes, holding one-year-old Leo Thomas, who was dressed in a tiny matching tuxedo, giggling happily as he played with his father’s watch chain.
The cathedral organ swelled into a triumphant, joyful processional.
Arthur turned his head.
Walking down the aisle on the arm of her younger brother, Sam, was Chloe.
She was utterly, breathtakingly magnificent. Her custom gown of ivory lace and silk hugged every gorgeous, feminine curve of her body, cascading into a sweeping train behind her. Her dark curls were pinned with delicate pearls, and her veil floated around her like morning mist. She walked with her head held high, radiating beauty, grace, and an undeniable power.
She wasn't just a bride. She was the undisputed Donna of the Romano Empire.
When Sam placed Chloe’s hand into Arthur’s, Arthur’s fingers closed around hers with an intensity that made the entire world outside those cathedral walls disappear.
“You look like an angel,” Arthur whispered, his voice trembling with awe.
“And you look like a man who is never going to run away again,” Chloe teased softly, her eyes shining with love.
“Never,” Arthur vowed.
The priest began the ceremony, but when the time came for the vows, Arthur turned to face Chloe fully, holding both of her hands in his.
“Chloe,” Arthur said, his voice carrying clearly to every corner of the packed cathedral. “You saved my life in a storeroom, and you saved my soul at this very altar. I vow to protect you, to worship every piece of who you are, and to spend every day of my life making sure you and our children know only safety, honor, and boundless love. You are my only queen, my only home, and the only vow that has ever mattered.”
Tears of pure happiness spilled down Chloe’s cheeks.
“Arthur,” she said, her voice steady and full of fierce devotion. “You gave me a family, you gave me your heart, and you taught me to love myself completely. I promise to stand by your side, to rule this life with you, and to love you through every storm this world can bring. You are my protector, my best friend, and my whole heart.”
The priest smiled warmly. “By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Arthur, you may kiss your bride.”
Arthur didn't wait. He pulled Chloe into his arms, dipping her slightly as his mouth claimed hers in a passionate, devastating kiss that brought the entire cathedral to its feet in a roaring standing ovation.
Little Leo clapped his tiny hands from the front pew, laughing loudly as his parents embraced.

Arthur lifted his wife back up, wrapping his arm securely around her waist. Together, hand in hand with their son in Arthur’s arm, Arthur and Chloe Romano walked down the aisle into the warm summer sunshine, ready to rule their empire, safe, united, and deeply in love.
