Chapter 22 - HELENA SEES HER AGAIN

Elsie was seven when she chose to see Helena.
Neutral garden.
Two therapists had said supervised contact could be appropriate if Elsie wanted it.
She did.
Why?
“Want see Grandma old.”
Helena was sixty-eight.
Apparently ancient.
They sat across from each other.
Helena asked:
“Can I hug you?”
Elsie:
“No.”
Helena:
“Okay.”
That one word told me more than any therapy report.
Twenty minutes later, Elsie handed her a flower.
May you like
Helena cried.
Did not turn the flower into permission.
