Chapter 14 - Expanding Ruta Norte Logística Into An International Giant And Finding True Partnership

While Alejandro and Teresa were drowning in the consequences of their greed, my life entered a golden era of unprecedented success, prosperity, and peace.

With the cancer of Alejandro’s toxic family permanently excised from my life, Ruta Norte Logística experienced explosive growth.

Sofia Ramos and I finalized the historic fifty-fifty joint venture with Mateo Cruz’s Cruz Intermodal Maritime, forming the newly unified Aegis-Cruz Global Logistics Alliance.

The merger was hailed by international financial markets as a masterstroke of supply-chain engineering. Our combined enterprise was valued at over $1.8 billion USD, operating fifty-two maritime container ships, ten thousand freight trucks, and automated deep-water port terminals across North America, Europe, and Asia.

Freed from the exhausting emotional weight of a spineless husband and an abusive mother-in-law, my energy was boundless. I was honored as Global Logistics Titan of the Year by the International Trade Commission and featured on the cover of Forbes as one of the world’s most formidable self-made female entrepreneurs.

On a warm autumn evening, Mateo and I stood on the private observation terrace of the new forty-story Aegis-Cruz Global headquarters overlooking the sparkling skyline of Mexico City.

The city lights twinkled like a sea of diamonds beneath the clear, starlit sky.

Mateo stood beside me, holding two crystal flutes of vintage sparkling cider. He wore an impeccably tailored navy suit, looking dashing, confident, and deeply at peace.

“A penny for your thoughts, Mariana?” Mateo asked with his characteristic warm, gentle smile, handing me a glass.

I took the glass, our fingers brushing briefly, sending a familiar, comforting warmth radiating through my chest.

“I was just thinking about how terrifying it used to feel to imagine walking away,” I said softly, looking out over the city. “I spent eight years believing that if I stood up for myself, everything would fall apart. But the moment I let it burn... I realized I was the one holding all the power all along.”

Mateo turned to face me, his dark eyes looking deep into my soul with unyielding respect, admiration, and genuine love.

“You were never just powerful, Mariana,” Mateo said, his voice deep and sincere. “You are a force of nature. You built an empire with your own hands, and you survived wolves pretending to be family. You deserve a partner who stands with you, who honors your strength, and who would tear the world apart before letting anyone disrespect you.”

Mateo reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small, velvet midnight-blue box.

He stepped closer, his hand gently taking mine.

He opened the box, revealing a breathtaking, flawless seven-carat cushion-cut emerald ring surrounded by brilliant-cut diamonds—a ring bought not with stolen money or arrogant entitlement, but with true, deep, unwavering devotion.

“Mariana,” Mateo whispered, looking into my eyes with everything he had in his heart. “Will you do me the absolute honor of building a real, unbreakable future together as my equal, my partner, and my wife?”

Tears of pure, unadulterated happiness welled in my eyes.

For the first time in my life, I wasn't being asked to hide my light. I was being asked to shine brighter than ever before.

“Yes, Mateo,” I breathed, wrapping my arms around his neck as he slid the emerald onto my finger. “A thousand times, yes.”

Mateo pulled me into his arms, lifting me off the ground and kissing me beneath the stars as the warm night breeze swept across our empire.
