Chapter 11 - The Divorce Court Bloodbath That Left Alejandro With Zero Pesos And A Mountain Of Debt

The final divorce and restitution hearing took place in Courtroom 4B of the Mexico City Superior Family Court, presided over by Senior Judge Fernando Gutierrez.

Alejandro sat at the petitioner’s table wearing a wrinkled, borrowed gray suit provided by his public defender. His face was gaunt, his hair unwashed, his shoulders hunched in complete defeat.

Seated on the public benches behind him was Teresa, who had been granted temporary bail under strict electronic ankle monitoring. She looked withered, clutching her cheap plastic purse, glaring at me with silent, impotent rage.

I sat at the defense table with Licenciado Silva and Sofia Ramos, looking immaculate in an ivory silk blouse and a navy tailored skirt, radiating total poise and unshakeable confidence.

Alejandro’s public defender stood up, clearing his throat nervously.

“Your Honor,” the public defender began, “my client, Mr. Alejandro Gomez, concedes that the marriage has irretrievably broken down. However, given that my client dedicated eight years of his prime career to managing Ruta Norte Logística, we respectfully petition the court for a fair equitable division of marital assets, including a fifty-percent share in the Lomas de Chapultepec estate, or an equivalent lump-sum spousal maintenance settlement of $5,000,000 USD.”

Teresa nodded aggressively from the back bench, whispering loudly, “That’s right! He earned every cent!”

Judge Gutierrez slammed his gavel down. “Silence in the gallery!”

Judge Gutierrez turned his gaze upon my attorney. “Does the defense have a response?”

Licenciado Silva stood up smoothly, buttoning his suit jacket.

“Your Honor,” Licenciado Silva began, “we submit into evidence Exhibit A: The fully executed, notarized Prenuptial Agreement with Complete Separation of Estates, executed three weeks prior to the marriage, which explicitly stipulates that neither party shall have any claim to pre-marital assets, corporate equity, or post-separation spousal maintenance.”

Licenciado Silva then placed three heavy binders onto the judge’s bench.

“Furthermore, we submit Exhibits B, C, and D: The audited forensic accounting records proving that Mr. Gomez embezzled

185,000 USD spent on maintaining an unauthorized luxury apartment and purchasing gifts for his mistress, Ms. Paulina Vega.”

Alejandro’s public defender buried his face in his hands, completely unable to utter a single objection.

Teresa gasped from the gallery, clutching her throat. “A mistress?! Alejandro, you spent our money on another woman?!”

“Shut up, Mom!” Alejandro screamed across the courtroom, his voice breaking into hysterical rage. “It wasn't your money! It was Mariana’s money! You ruined everything with your stupid pride!”

Judge Gutierrez slammed the heavy wooden gavel down three times, the loud CRACK-CRACK-CRACK silencing the entire courtroom.

“Enough!” Judge Gutierrez boomed, his eyes burning with stern authority.

The judge looked down at Alejandro with profound disgust.

“Mr. Gomez, your claims for equitable division and spousal support are not only frivolous, they are an insult to this court. You entered this marriage with zero assets, you contributed zero capital, and you used your position of trust to commit systematic, felonious grand larceny against your spouse’s corporation.”

Judge Gutierrez picked up his pen and signed the final decree.

“The court rules as follows:

The marriage between Mariana Hart and Alejandro Gomez is formally and irrevocably dissolved.

Mr. Gomez’s claims for spousal maintenance, real estate equity, and corporate shares are denied with prejudice.

Mr. Gomez is ordered to pay full civil restitution of $597,000 USD to Ruta Norte Logística within ninety days, plus all accrued legal fees.

In satisfaction of preliminary restitution, the court orders the immediate judicial seizure and foreclosure of the Gomez family ancestral ranch in Querétaro.”

The gavel slammed down with finality.

Alejandro collapsed onto the table, sobbing uncontrollably as the court marshals stepped forward to escort him back to the criminal holding cells to await his criminal sentencing.

Teresa let out a shrill, suffocated shriek, fainting onto the wooden bench as the realization hit her:

They hadn't just lost the mansion.

They hadn't just lost the company.

They had lost their family home, their name, and their freedom.
